Newsletter September 2010

Dear Reader,

Just prior to leaving for UK and France on 14th August I was struck down with a particularly nasty flu involving rapid changing of remedies, of which the first needed were Arnica Belladonna and Gelsemium. Lethargic feverish with a meningeal tightness especially round the back of my neck. All joints seized up making it very painful to move at all, and swiftly moving into a deep unproductive cough which sounded as if I was on the way to the graveyard. Sweating broke out all over neck chest back and catarrh pouring out of my nose with profuse sneezing. Everywhere I had had surgery in the past felt extremely painful and as if I had just had it the other week, and I didn't know what to do with myself other than hang on to my hot water bottle build up a roaring fire and stay on the couch.

Well, if you need to give yourself or your loved ones remedies fast, do so. Never mind the advice re: staying with one remedy especially when several are indicated at once!

Following the Belladonna and Gelsemium Eupatorium Perfoliatum followed with Bryonia proving very handy as everything hurt when I moved, even swallowing. It was also helpful for what proved to be a really debilitating racking cough also helped by Ant Tart Carbo Veg Hepar Sulph and Rumex Crispus - as if a feather constantly tickling the throat and upper chest. China for the loss of body fluid with the sweating really helped revive me.

I struggled on to the plane at Perth and once sitting down realised I had left my trusty Helios Travellers Kit with its absolutely necessary 36 remedies. So I requested a cognac as I felt like expiring and nursed it to Singapore 5 hours away, dozing as we flew. It really helped enough to get me to Heathrow another 12 hours on and finally caught up with remedy supplies at my daughter's flat in Brighton.

I hope you don't get it, though it really is doing the rounds and constitutional treatment is needed once it is over as it does give the immune response a severe kicking! When I was nursing, brandy was always kept in the drug cupboard for 'medicinal purposes' and it really does give a boost.

Once here in the UK was able to rest for a week before going home to France where 3 weeks of sunshine and good food completed the cure before returning to UK for work.

Once again I've been surprised by how many old patients appear from out of the blue - this time a family who had been living over east of Australia for several years working at well established University. They were given permanent visas within 1 week of being there! After almost 9 years of hard work it doesn't look as if I'll be getting one working in the field of alternative medicine in Homeopathy!

Whilst in Australia the children contracted measles which apparently is a different version of measles, and now they are being pressurised to have a measles vaccination over here in the UK!They are not interested as they have never vaccinated their children and with the help of Homeopathic constitutional treatment from their first year they are in robust good health and have no intention of compromising it.

Sadly the pogrom against Homeopathy is still going with attacks now focused on the Royal Homeopathic Hospital in Glasgow Scotland, the cognoscenti having failed to remove it from the UK NHS  with their sneaky midnight presentation Private Members Bill in the House of Commons recently. Their noisy rhetoric and inaccurate representation of Homeopathy was acknowledged to be 'deeply flawed' according to the investigation into their case. At last a victory for common sense and fair play; something Britain has been short of for quite a while now.

The Pope's visit brought out yet more scurrilous attacks from Richard Dorkins - yes I know it's spelt Dawkins but Dorkins is a more accurate description of his one eyed vitriolic ill informed opinions, and Stephen Hawking who proclaimed that because there was gravity there obviously could be no God. Well, I never knew that. As a traditional practicing Catholic I was delighted to see the crowds welcoming the Pope and that Cardinal John Henry Newman has now been beatified - the first step to sainthood and the bridge between the Anglican and Roman Catholic Church.

My 3 children all attended Cardinal Newman secondary school here in Brighton; it is an excellent school encouraging arts and sciences and all abilities of children attending equally. I keep Cardinal Newman's meditation on my table at home - each of us has a task to complete here on earth which we must try and do to the best of our ability. Whatever the negative attacks on Homeopathy I am convinced of its effectiveness safety reliability and sustainability after 28 years in Practice. More importantly so are my patients.

Finally, here's something to tickle your funny bone - "the baby boomers hit list".
